Sadie's birthday card

It was Sadie's 80th birthday on the 13th. It was touch and go whether we'd be able to celebrate because of the weather but we had a little lunch for her with her sister, niece, Nicole, my MIL and I at a restaurant. I bought helium balloons and sat them on either side of her chair. I also got her the obligatory Birthday Girl badge which she wore with pride! She had a lovely day and was well up for the celebrations!

This is the card I made for Sadie based on this card Jeanie had made.

I used another one of my Inky Antic stamps. I'm glad to say that Sadie loved her card :-D

Isn't she gorgeous lol

I wanted to use the Old Olive ribbon I have like this but it just didn't look right so I opted for the brown. This ribbon is brilliant for tying bows...totally idiot proof  (me not Jeanie lololol).

I'm no further forward with my Christmas preparations. I've got 28 cards in various stages. I thought I would get them finished but ended up watching the final of the Apprentice and talking to Lisa for over an hour!! I think we spent most of that time going in circles and confusing each other lol. Tree still hs one decoration BUT I did buy the ingredients for my Christmas baking...I just don't know when I'll fit it in!

Anywho, I'm pooped so I'm going to take the dogs out in the snow (we got another 3 inches today) then get to my bed.

The entries on the Challenge Blog are fantastic...you've only got till 9 am Monday to get your entry in and to send your answer in for the blog hop to win a prize.

Thanks for stopping by...I hope this week won't be too stressful for you!

Who would have thought it?

I'm going to visit Jean this afternoon. She'll have been in hospital about 14 weeks now and I can't believe it's the same person I visit now from all those weeks ago.

The day my dad left to go home to Vancouver we were told by a doctor there was nothing more they could do for her. Once she had stabilized they would send her down to High Dependency and there she would stay until the end. She was on a 'do not resucitate' order as they didn't think it would be fair on her only for that to be lifted weeks later then reinstated the next day. We (her friend Carol and I) have had 3 calls to say she'd taken a turn for the worse and we rushed to the hospital only to see her rally. She's had a burst bowel, 2 heart attacks, a stroke and umpteen infections. She's had us in fits of giggles with hallucinations from the drugs...she told me the flats outside her window were sh**e because they'd collapsed 3 times in one day!

Well today she's in a normal ward and I'm taking her some balloons, cupcakes and a birthday card because it's her 70th birthday on Tuesday...a day we didn't think we'd see. Until she took ill, Jean and I didn't have a relationship. We never got on for one reason or another and we only ever saw each other if my mom and dad were over visiting or she and I were coincidentally in Vancouver at the same time. When she first took ill I was obviously taking my dad to visit her...he thought he was over to say his goodbyes. When dad went home I continued to visit her for his sake and also because I felt sorry for her. She doesn't have a family of her own and she's always been a bit of a loner so has few friends.

But now I'm finding myself looking forward to seeing her and so happy to see her getting better. We have a laugh and we're getting to know each other. She has a long long way to go ... possibly another 6 months in hospital and even then she'll have to move into sheltered housing...but she continues to surprise everyone with her fight for life and Carol and I swear if she was a cat she'd have very few lives left!

When I was thinking of her card I knew I wanted to use one of my Inky Antics stamps. I love these images and I thought this one was perfect for Jean....

I'm really happy with the way this has turned out though the picture doesn't do it justice. IRL the colours are gorgeous.

I just love this lady though I can't imagine Jean ever wearing an outfit like this lol.

Her hat was just begging to sparkle :-D

I used some of the 'ribbon' I got at Zoe Bunny's recently and cut a flower (yes Tams, Hayley & Lisa another flower lol) using my Nesties and felt. I added a button and a couple of Swarovski crystals to the centre.

I hope Jean likes her card and her birthday bits and pieces.

Thanks for stopping by.

Snowy Days

Take a look at these pictures I took at about 3:30pm this afternoon ...

Front yard...

Back yard! It stopped for a bit but now it's back in full force. Steven finally managed to get his car out of our street to go to work tonight but he's on his way back as the roads are so bad. Pierce and Ryan have been stuck in traffic for about 45 minutes and they're only 10 minutes from home! Unfortunately there are a few really steep hills on their route so who knows when they'll get home. I love the snow...especially when I'm out with the dogs. They absolutely love the snow. I had them up at the tennis courts at the top of our street this morning and they were going crazy! There was a traffic cone there and Rocky managed to grab it and was spinning around with it like it was a discus .... poor Ruby kept having to duck otherwise she would have been knocked out LOL! I did manage to take a video of it so if I can manage to work out how to get it on here I'll post it later.

This card was an order for a friends friend's nieces's first Christmas (I like to confuse lol). I love this stamp. It's by Inky Antics and I had seen it in an American magazine about 5 years ago. I searched high and low for it but couldn't find it so I phoned Inky Antics and it turned out it was discontinued but they still had a couple left even though it wasn't on their website! I don't think I'll ever part with it because it's perfect for little ones.

The boys still aren't back yet so I hope they're ok. Steven just called to say he couldn't get back up the hill to the house so he's going to try and go around the back way. Maybe I don't like the snow so much after all.

This is gonna be quick...

....cuz I'm knackered and I still have to take the dogs a walk before I hit the hay. It has been a disgusting day here in Glagow. It didn't really stop raining all day and luckily I spent most of it inside. When I did have to venture out it was real 'baton down the hatches' weather.

I did manage to make this card...I'm afraid the photo doesn't do it justice...it's so much nicer in real life. First of all you'll notice it's not a Bella image and 2nd....it's not Basic Grey paper!!! The stamp is Inky Antics and the pp SU! I stamped the image in Momento Tuxedo Black ink and coloured it with my Prisma pencils and Copics for the face, arms and legs. Some SU! ribbon in Pink Pirouette is fixed to to the card with a brad made with my i-tool. A few crystals, a bit of glitter (I'm still finding it around the kitchen after yesterday's play day!!) and a computer generated sentiment finishes it off : )

I better get my waterproofs on before I head outside. Hopefully I won't get blown away!!

Have a great weekend and I'll catch ya later x
